Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is the Japanese word for Universal life energy. Reiki is a gentle non-invasive, hands-on method of energy transfer.
The information was rediscovered in the early 1920’s by Dr. Mikao Usui of Kyoto Japan. He passed the method and system to retired Naval surgeon Dr. Chujiro Hayashi. He in, turn empowered a Japanese-American woman Mrs. Hawayo Takata of Hawaii to Reiki Master-Instructor just prior to the Second World War. Mrs. Takata introduced Reiki to the West and during her very productive career she trained 22 Master-Instructors. One of her earliest Master-Instructors was John Harvey Gray of Northern California.
Elaine J Abrams began her full time private Reiki practice in 1987, one of the earliest in New York City. In 1988 she began sponsoring Reiki workshops in her loft space for her Reiki Master John Harvey Gray (one of Hawayo Takatas’ original 22 Masters).
John trained Elaine to be a Reiki Master-Instructor in 1993 and continued to teach with her in New York until 1999.
Elaine founded The Reiki Group in 1988 as a continuing practice for students who were trained by Elaine (or John and Elaine) in Reiki Level 1 and Level 2 maintaining the original style and additions as it was taught.
Elaine has been invited to introduce Reiki, presenting demonstrations and talks to many people for over 20 years. Today, Reiki is a well known way to help reduce stress, manage physical discomfort, encourage gentle shifts in consciousness, and enhance overall well being of clients and students through treatment and self-treatment.
